5 Minutes with Hannah Williams RCA 2015

I met Hannah Williams a few seasons back in 2013  while styling Fashion Scout's Ones to Watch show, Hannah was selected along side designers Helen Lawrence and Renli Su to show at London Fashion Week.  In 2013 Hannah won both the  Graduate Fashion Week 2013 Womenswear and Fashion Innovation Awards and she also won the Muuse winner 2013.  Hannah collection was so innovative and exciting. The avant garde silicone dresses in pretty soft pastel colours had imprints of gigantic zips, pockets, buttons and embroidery. The  models gilded down the catwalk, it was impossible by looking at the dresses and bags to know how heavy there really were or that the silicone could be so cold to the touch that take on a life of its own and could even start to sweat. I was really excited, curious and even nervous to see how Hannah would develop her next collection for her MA. And then she exceed all my exceptions. There were dresses, catsuits with bags and shoes all dripping, everything looked wet, it's beautiful but slightly sinister. The pastel colours dripping with blood red with greens and white with hints of purple and yellow.Hannah Williams graduated in BA (Hons) Fashion from the University for the Creative Arts, has just recently graduated from the Royal College of Art.Name: Hannah WilliamsWhere are you from? Therefore I start by looking at unusual materials within fashion and drive myself to create a new process.Who/what inspires you? Sculptors mainly inspire me, there use of material and the way in which they work.What does graduating mean for you? Time to face the real world!Where do you see yourself in five years time? Running my own material based business. Where I will work on a variety of art projects, that are all material driven.Talk us through your final project. I wanted to change the technique of fashion by not pattern cutting or sewing and directly sculpting garments onto the body creating a different approach to design.  Each garment is individually sculpted onto a live model, making my collection all about the process.What do you love about what you do? I love that you can be extremely experimental and free.  It excites me when i see the process really working.
