2014 Graduate Fashion Week at the Houses of Parliament
This year Graduate Fashion Week will take place May 31st  - June 3rd at the Truman Breweries on Brick Lane. On May 1st Graduate Fashion Week held a reception with a catwalk show at the Houses of Parliament. It was my first visit to the Houses of Parliament - it's an amazing building and there were actually several events that evening but it was easy to spot the fashion crowd in a sea of suits. The evening was a celebration of up and coming talent, and it was an opportunity to discover the next generation of what the UK fashion industry has to offer. It's really quite extraordinary to have a centralised showcase of young talent. Very few countries are able to offer something like this and promote their fashion graduates. This season GFW  has partnered with Vogue Italia Talents to present the International Catwalk Competition 2014 at Graduate Fashion Week.  GFW has over 20,000 guests and features about 22 catwalk shows. The 2014 graduates below participated in the catwalk show.Mayya Aga - Kingston UniversityLaura Athey Middlesex UniverstiyLavinia Cadar - UCA EpsomPei Chen Yang - Arts University BournemouthChloe Fuller  Norwich University of the ArtsAlina Stanila - UWLMariam Chumburidze - Instituto MarangoniSophie Stacy - UWE BristolNatalie Dawson - Manchester School of ArtFiona Bell - Bath Spa UniversityBrogan Tythe- McCallum - University of SalfordGeorge at Asda has created a label called G21 Talent, which showcased it's new collection from previous year graduates Thea Sanders - Nottingham Trent, Francesca Calabrese - Arts University and Lauren Smith - Edinburgh College of the ArtsHilary Alexander is a trustee of the Executive Committee at Graduate Fashion weekFiona Lambert, Brand Director at George.Lady Neale, Barbara Hulanicki and Louise Pickles, course director at Bath Spa UniversityI was able to go backstage and get a sneaky peek at the collection - here are some closeup shots:
