The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014 at the V&A
This spring the V&A is celebrating the Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945 to 2014. It  will be the first major show to examine Italy's rich and influential contribution to the fashion from the end of the Second World War to the present period. I'm quite excited about this exhibition and it's hard to believe that it's the first exhibition of its kind. Sonnet Stanfill is the curator of the exhibition and she has worked with the V&A since 1999.
On display will be over 100 different looks and accessories by leading fashion houses including Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Â Missoni, Prada, Valentino and Versace to the next issue generation of talent including couture by Giambattista Valli and Fausto Puglisi. Bulgari, the sponsor of the show, will have on display Bulgari jewellery once own by Elizabeth Taylor given to her by Richard Burton and worn on their wedding day.
The exhibition explorers the Salla Bianca catwalk shows held in Florence in the early 50s which propelled fashion onto the world stage. Hollywood films shot on location in Italy during the 50's and 60's introduced stars like Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor to Italian fashion and jewellery creating an international appetite for luxury clothing with the Made in Italy label.
