Dazed & Confused founder Jefferson Hack speaks with the Business of Fashion
I was out yesterday for a lovely fruit crumble, and had time to have a look at my (also lovely) copies of Dazed & Confused and AnOther magazine, which I got recently at Business of Fashion's interview event with Dazed & Confused founder Jefferson Hack. The talk was at the very cool Sanderson Hotel in London. This was the first event of an ongoing series featuring fashion pioneers, and Jefferson Hack was a great choice. Jefferson Hack is the Editorial Director of Dazed Group which includes Dazed & Confused, Dazed Digital, AnOther Magazine and Nowness. He started his first fanzine with Rankin almost 20 years ago. At the beginning he found people to work with just by going out to clubs and many of those same people still play an influential role in the Dazed Group today.I really appreciate going to fashion talks. Growing up in a smaller city you don't really have access to these types of opportunities, to listen to people who influence the direction of fashion on a global level. This interview was streamed live around the world so even if you couldn't afford a ticket you still had access, which was a great idea. Excerpts from the interview will be played on The Business of Fashion website. Jefferson made so many interesting points, but the simplest and most basic point was really if you have something to say find a way to say it, “Go create!â€Easier said than done! This is the hardest part for most people, trying to find a platform, getting started, but in a scoop for BofF Jefferson Hack revealed that Dazed has found a way to give those a voice who might not usually have one - by creating satellite blogs! “I want to bring this platform to smaller cities that don’t have an international presence. I want to use our site’s architecture and give them complete editorial freedom, confidence and the dazed badge so they can let rip and show what’s going on in their city. The idea is you can be anything, you don’t need anybody to tell you you can do it. You do it then you become relevant. I want to bring that to the web.â€Imran Amed, founder and editor of Business of Fashion, Helen Le Blanc from The Luxe Chronicles, Rachel Maris Walsh for A Shaded View on Fashion and me.Images courtesy of Christopher Dadey.
